Background
The Year 2000 is a problem of global proportion. Every industry and therefore
every consumer can potentially be affected unless some action is taken.
Educational Computer Systems, Inc. has been pursuing a course of action to
address any issues before they become problems. This statement is intended to
disclose our current initiatives regarding the Year 2000 (Y2k) problem.
General
The fact that the Year 2000 is a leap-year has no effect on any portion of
the SAL products. The product will perform properly before, on and after the
leap-day with no interruption of service or deviation of accuracy.
SAL Compliance
Our SAL application is internally designed such that the on-line portion is
in no way affected by the change in century or the leap year issue. The on-line
portion consists of the user-interface and associated programs. Without
modification, this portion of the system will continue to run well into the
next century.
We identified a small subset of the calculation and computation modules within
SAL that would experience a problem without
modifications to the internal code and data structures. These modifications have
been made and have entered the final stages of testing. If no unexpected problems
are encountered, the entire SAL product was compliant on July 1, 1998.
Vendor Component Compliance
ECSI uses components provided by other vendors to produce SAL.
We have made every possible effort to ensure that the compilers, tools and
runtime routines provided by these vendors are also Y2k compliant. From our
investigations, none of the components used will adversely effect the operation
of SAL in either the century or leap-year areas.
Third-party Compliance
While ECSI can control the compliance of our products, we can make no warranty
or statement of compliance for other vendor's products. Consequently, we can assume
no responsibility for the failure of another vendor's product which causes SAL
to fail. This includes, but is not limited to, Hardware, Operating System software,
external data feeds, spreadsheet calculations, etc.
In an effort to assist our clients in the early detection and resolution of
problems, we have made a series of resources available on our web site. These
links are provided as a courtesy to our clients. ECSI has
no relationship with any of those vendors or authors. Clients are responsible
for ensuring the suitability and accuracy of material they acquire from these
sources.
