Expanded Internet Capacity

ECSI has substantially increased the capacity of our Internet services. We have just completed migrating from a 1.5 Mbps T1 Internet Service to a 10 Mbps Ethernet service (Mbps is "million bits per second" or about 187,000 characters per second).

This upgrade represents almost seven times more bandwidth available to our client's. While everything will work faster, the two services that should see the most improvement are our SAL-NET product (terminal server sessions) and FTP file transfers.

Many of our web pages are small and will be hard to notice the difference in performance. There are certain areas of the web site that should show a marked improvement. Web Reports, Prom Note, and WebExits are three areas that should perform much better.

Although important to our operation, bandwidth is not the only benefit of the new service. Our additional bandwidth comes from a dual fiber optic, SONET ring which combines high-speed access with a self-healing, redundant path to our Internet Service Provider (ISP).

TelCove has been providing Internet services for our SAL-NET product for almost two years. Because their fiber runs through our property, it was natural to acquire additional service from them.

In addition to satisfying our current 'need for speed', their ethernet service will allow us to grow in the future. Telcove provides us with the capacity to increase our service up to 100 times the present speed, with very little lead time.
