Hardly a day goes by without some item in the news about an Internet site being hacked or attacked, credit card numbers being stolen, or any number of other security risks. ECSI has a particular interest in these security issues as we maintain so much information that a borrower would consider 'personal'. The security we maintain for our daily transmissions may have been good enough a year ago, but as the 'bad guys' get more sophisticated, so must our procedures and technologies.

ECSI is pleased to announce the release of an encryption component to our automated transmission process (See news item). This new component provides a very high level of encryption to our daily update process. Files that contain data will be encrypted before being exposed to the Internet. This change will apply to both the client's side and ECSI's side. Unlike the previous solution ECSI offered, this version requires no intervention from the client's staff. We have also taken the opportunity to substantially increase the level of security (448-bits vs. 56-bits).

We feel that encryption is essential to maintain both our client's and their borrower's expectation of privacy and security. As such, we will begin converting our transmission clients as soon as practical.

A very special "Thank You" goes to Susanne Duranti at West Virginia State College for volunteering to help us perfect the new procedures.
