The Department of Education has created the Office of the Ombudsman to receive and investigate complaints made by individuals concerning their Title IV loans. The loans that the
Ombudsman will address include Perkins, Direct Loans, FFEL, Guaranteed Student Loans and SSL.
As an impartial party, the Ombudsman will investigate complaints submitted by borrowers and will recommend solutions. The Ombudsman does
not have the power to make policy or reverse decisions. The Ombudsman is generally a "last resource" when you feel that all of your other avenues have been exhausted.
The Office of the Ombudsman has much more information available and can be found at http://ombudsman.ed.gov/.
