On February 25, 1999, ECSI enhanced our existing Internet facilities by providing
substantially more bandwidth to our clients. Until now, we provided 56k access to
our Internet facilities (WWW, FTP, etc). We now support full T1 access at over
1300k, twenty-four times the previous offering. (Note: Bandwidth is the
measurement of how much data can be transmitted in a given amount of time.)
The benefits of the larger bandwidth will initially provide faster transmissions with our clients who send or receive
updates either with Remotely Possible, FTP or their Web browser. We've seen transmission speeds increase anywhere
between two and twelve times faster than before. Clients should notice similar improvements. An improvement that may not be
obvious is that more clients can now access our services concurrently than ever before.
The fine people from @Work have enabled us to provide this enhanced level of service.
Through the exemplary efforts of their staff, the people from @Work ensured that the service
was delivered, installed and configured on time with Zero down time to our clients or staff.
Background
This is the third step in our four-part plan to substantially enhance the Internet services
that ECSI provides our clients and their students.
- Replace antiquated hardware with state of the art computers which would support the needs of our current and future Internet plans.
- Replace our Operating Systems and hosting software with a modern, robust platform to provide performance, stability and enhanced, multi-level security.
- Convert our aging telecommunications infrastructure with a high-speed replacement.
- Add additional services such as voice-over-ip, video conferencing, remote administration, enhanced software updates and more. Details of the additional
services will be made available as they are released.
