Senator Schumer introduced a bill to amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 to provide for an increase in the amount of student loans that are eligible for forgiveness in exchange for the service of
the individual as a teacher. The bill would be referred to as the "Quality Teacher Recruitment Act of 2001".
